GUEST JUDGE /BEST AD OF THE WEEK![]() Guest Judge: Mohammad Akrum Hossain, ECD, Asiatic & The Network![]() This week's guest judge is Mohammad Akrum Hossain, executive creative director at Asiatic & The Network, in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Winner: Nike 'Stairs'. I pick this as the top because I relate to it very much. It reminds of me the pain I had to go through to achieve everything I did so far, how the journey to win is one that is very hard, regardless of the outcome. READ MORE Guest Judge: Roisin Keown, Founder/ECD, The Brill Building![]() I hate the judges who rain on everyone's parade but there were a couple of lean categories. Interactive and activations are my interest anyway - anything with real world impact that would interest people outside of our ad-land bubble and the interactive category delivered best this week. READ MORE Guest Judge: Seamus Higgins, CCO, R/GA, Australia![]() This week's guest judge is Seamus Higgins, chief creative officer at R/GA Australia. Winner: Virgin | Made By Dyslexia 'DyslexicU'. It's very hard to judge this piece of work purely as a film, because what it represents feels so important. So I'm not going to. The world needs more neurodiverse thinkers to be recognised, empowered and valued. I love this ambition. READ MORE Guest Judge: Katyana O'Neill, Associate CD, Johannes Leonardo

![]() This week's guest judge is Tolga Buyukdoganay, chief creative officer at Ogilvy Amsterdam. Winner: For me, the Walrus of Virgin Media is smooth. Great choice of music, a great boat, and an even greater character: a Walrus. Fantastic VFX and supporting actors all around. A pleasure to watch, and it delivers the message 'smoothly.' A home run for me. Applause to everyone involved. READ MORE Guest Judge: Genevieve Hoey, Global CD, the LEGO Group, Denmark

![]() This week's guest judge is Genevieve Hoey, global creative director at the LEGO Group, Denmark. Favourite: Mor Koo Kids 'Better Ask More Koo Kids'. Is Thailand the last bastion of entertaining, unpredictable ads? Do they have less research? Braver clients? Free beers on set? Who knows. But it's working. READ MORE Guest Judge: Jack Christensen, Global CD, LePub, MilanThis week's guest judge is Jack Christensen, global creative director, LePub, Milan. Winner: Palliative Care Queensland 'The Cassette'. I really enjoyed this approach to talking about a tricky subject. It can be tempting to overly tug at people's heart strings with this kind of thing, but the use of stop-motion animation to drive the humour helped strike the right balance and really made me feel better about death, so I guess the ad achieved what it set out to do. READ MORE Guest Judge: Allison Pierce, CCO, VML, Kansas City![]() This week's guest judge is Allison Pierce, chief creative officer, VML, Kansas City. Ok, I'm starting with Interactive because I feel like that was some of the best work I saw today. Winner: Axis Bank 'Sanskrit Password'. I love ideas that can solve two problems at once, and this one did just that. READ MORE Guest Judges: Alex Little + Karsten Jurkschat, Tall Poppy, NYC![]() This week's guest judges are Alex Little and Karsten Jurkschat, founders, Tall Poppy, New York. Winner: 2degrees 'Dinghy'. It's bloody hard to sell invisible things. We've worked for all the major networks in the US and hit our fair share of conceptual walls. Hats off to the team on this one for striking that razor thin balance of demonstrating a serious network test while also keeping it super light, super simple and super memorable. READ MORE Guest Judge: Gabriela Lungu, ECD at Publicis, UKThis week's guest judge is Gabriela Lungu, executive creative director at Publicis UK and founder of WINGS Creative Leadership Lab. Winner: Bodyform/Libresse 'Never Just a Period'. My gut... I mean my womb tells me there's not a woman or person with periods out there who doesn't resonate with this ad, so I obviously do too. READ MORE Guest Judge: Michael Aimette, CCO, FCB New York![]() This week's guest judge is Michael Aimette, chief creative officer at FCB New York. Winner: Apple 'The Underdogs - OOO'. Damn you, Bestads! I swore I'd do my best to celebrate an undiscovered gem of a TV spot from a cool, under-the-radar brand that deserves its moment in the sun, and look at that, 3 of the 6 great spots on this list are from Nike or Apple. READ MORE Guest Judge: Julie Matheny, Group CD, TBWA\Media Arts Lab, UK![]() This week's guest judge is Julie Matheny, group creative director at TBWA Media Arts Lab, UK, Apple's bespoke agency. 1st place: KFC Thailand 'Uncle KFC's Rice Bowls'. An ad about a couple deciding what to eat for dinner, taken to a strange, strange place. It's so imaginative in the most unexpected way, combining surreal twists/turns with relatable dialogue and familiar relationship dynamics. READ MORE Guest Judge: Harsh Kapadia, EVP, CCO, MRM, New York![]() This week's guest judge is Harsh Kapadia, EVP, chief creative officer, MRM New York. Winner: AAMI 'When Our Athletes Are In The Making'. With a household of little athletes I completely relate to this. I never know when my TV is going to get knocked by a football or a cartwheel might bring down something precious. But telling my kids no is not an option coz you want them to be kids as well. READ MORE Guest Judge: Juliana Cobb, head of creative, 72andSunny, NYC![]() This week's guest judge is Juliana Cobb, head of creative at 72andSunny, New York. Winner: Visit Oslo 'Is It Even A City'. What a coup to take such an opposite approach to selling people on the appeal of a city by giving it a spokesperson that's sh*tting on it at every turn, YET STILL MAKING YOU WANT TO GO. READ MORE Guest Judge: Jim Curtis, EVP, Global ECD, McCann Worldgroup, NYC![]() This week's guest judge is Jim Curtis, EVP, global executive creative director at McCann Worldgroup, New York. Favorite: Orange 'Cybersecure'. Yes, it's a bit too long, but I'm sure all the cutdowns would be equally as effective. Great performances and the production values fit the concept well. READ MORE Guest Judge: Regan Grafton, chief tinker/co-founder, Thinkerbell![]() This week's guest judge is Regan Grafton, chief tinker and co-founder at Thinkerbell, Aotearoa. Winner: KFC UK & Ireland 'Believe in Chicken'. To be honest, I'm usually not a fan of dancing. Whether it's line dancing, River-dance or dancing ads. However, KFC's 'Believe in Chicken' dives headfirst into this genre with impressive craftsmanship, resulting in an intriguing and surprisingly watchable spot. READ MORE Guest Judge: Luciana Cani, ECD, AKQA, PortlandThis week's guest judge is Luciana Cani, executive creative director at AKQA Portland. Winner: Citroen 'Eat the rich'. I like how the paradigm shift - democratizing electric cars - is conveyed through a single, simple message and represented in such a powerful, cinematic way. While the commercial features all the typical elements of a car ad, dynamic car action paired with memorable music, it keeps us entertained every second. READ MORE Guest Judge: Andy Jex, CCO, TBWA\London![]() This week's guest judge is Andy Jex, chief creative officer at TBWA London. Winner: Clash of Clans 'Unavailable Players'. I love Haaland taking over as the Barbarian King in Clash of Clans. It's a great idea and a fresh, modern way of doing partnerships. This is an idea about the players that haven't been chosen to be in the game. READ MORE Guest Judge: Lisa Bright, CCO, Ogilvy California![]() This week's guest judge is Lisa Bright, chief creative officer at Ogilvy California. Winner: Tiguan 'Unhappy Campers'. This made me laugh. And I love to laugh. So I loved this. What a refreshingly honest take in a category where we usually only see unrealistic versions of the experience. Loved the casting, the simplicity of the storytelling and the sweet moment in the end. Apple seems to be following a very simple formula at the moment. One product, one feature, one ad. It's leading to a golden run of very memorable work. This week's winner Find Your Friend is a worthy entry into this body of work. READ MORE Guest Judge: Lisa Fedyszyn, CCO, Special, New Zealand![]() This week's guest judge is Lisa Fedyszyn, chief creative officer at Special, New Zealand Aotearoa. Winner: Speedo 'Go Full Speedo'. This has done what is so, so hard to do: They've created a cracking and catchy original song for an ad. On top of that they've made Speedos cool. READ MORE Guest Judge: Steve Cochran, CCO, Saatchi & Saatchi, NZ![]() This week's guest judge is Steve Cochran, chief creative officer at Saatchi & Saatchi, New Zealand. Winner: LYNX 'Robbery'. READ MORE Guest Judge: Susan Credle, chair, FCB + creative advisor, IPG![]() This week's guest judge is Susan Credle, chair at FCB Global and creative advisor of IPG, based out of New York. Winner: Plenty 'Vow to Clean'. My husband and I see a couple's therapist. Over the years we have been learning about acts of service as a language of love. "Vow to Clean" resonates with me. As ridiculous as the marriage vows in this piece sound at first, after 34 years of marriage, I can attest this is an authentic language of love. ![]() This week's guest judge is Justine Armour, chief creative officer and partner at FIG, New York. Winner: Bring 'Sabotage'. This sweet short film for Norwegian courier company Bring asks and delightfully answers the question: what's the downside of having your packages reliably and consistently delivered? READ MORE Guest Judge: Brendan Hoffmann, ECD, Joe Public, Cape Town![]() This week's guest judge is Brendan Hoffmann, executive creative director at Joe Public, Cape Town. Winner: Pepperstone 'Don't be fine with it'. I'm a sucker for great insights and the idea of people getting stuck using the same-old trading platform and convincing themselves that they're fine with it is a winner. READ MORE Guest Judge: Jenny Glover, CCO, Zulu Alpha Kilo, Toronto![]() This week's guest judge is Jenny Glover, chief creative officer at Zulu Alpha Kilo, Toronto. Winner: KFC 'Who's cutting onions'. I ummed and ahhed a fair bit over the TV winner but ultimately decided to go for this simply told, singular idea. In contrast to some of the other contenders in this category, who could've benefitted from shorter edits, this spot does everything it needs to do and then gets the hell out. READ MORE Guest Judge: Russell Ramsey, ECD, Pulse Creative, London![]() This week's guest judge is Russell Ramsey, executive creative director of Pulse Creative London, part of The&Partnership. Favourite: Zijkant 'Equal pay day'. Based on a really good insight that men hate being asked how much they earn. In fact they'd rather put their hand in a deep fat fryer than answer it. This film pulls no punches and will have you grimacing and hiding behind your pillow as well as laughing. READ MORE Guest Judge: Leisa Wall, chief creative officer, FCB Aotearoa![]() This week's guest judge is Leisa Wall, chief creative officer at FCB Aotearoa. Winner: KIA 'KIA's Getting a Ute'. It was a lean week for classic TV but I'm giving it to best use of multiple retired sports dudes in an ad that could be a beer ad but is actually a car ad for Kia. READ MORE Guest Judge: Pete Boonyanate, CCO, BBDO Bangkok![]() This week's guest judge is Pete Boonyanate, chief creative officer at BBDO Bangkok. Winner: The Gas Leaks Project 'Hot & Toxic'. I'm very impressed with this work; it's quite bold but well-directed. The way the PSA message about fossil fuels is turned into a spoof of a reality show is simply brilliant. READ MORE Guest Judge: Tim Gordon, CCO and partner, Zulu Alpha Kilo, NYC![]() This week's guest judge is Tim Gordon, chief creative officer and partner at Zulu Alpha Kilo, New York. Winner: Stok'd 'Cliffside Bookstore'. I am a sucker for clever advertising and this one certainly fits the bill. While everyone might not get the context right away, once you know that in Canada there are tight restrictions on how to market cannabis shops this campaign becomes wonderfully inventive. This spot stands apart from the rest, the art direction is a work of art. It generates a very surprising narrative around sunlight, this narrative closes at the end of the piece with the tag line "Find your summer" and the Magnum brand stayed in my head. ![]() This week's guest judge is Laura Rogers, executive creative director at AMV BBDO, London. Lucky me to get to review film the week after the Superbowl! There's tough competition in this week's entries, but for me the clear winner is Squarespace. The aliens are coming, but we're too distracted by our phones to notice. I love that we can all relate to being both the humans and the aliens in this story. And when your ad is not only directed by Martin Scorsese but has a cameo by the man himself, well that's a winner.
